Rebuilding Communities

The Philippines suffered two consecutive catastrophes that devastated the country at the end 2013. A 7.2 earthquake struck the island of Bohol in mid- October, making it the deadliest earthquake in the Philippines in over two decades. Then, less than a month later, Super Typhoon Haiyan made landfall on the neighboring island of Leyte on November 8th and was one of the most dangerous typhoons on record. It collided with the Visayas region of the Philippines, causing numerous fatalities and injuries and destroying over half a million homes, displacing over 4.1 million people.

Responding to both major natural disasters, All Hands launched two simultaneous projects to assist the Philippines recovery efforts: Project Bohol and Project Leyte. Through the AIRLINK Network, air transportation was provided to move All Hands administrators, volunteers and cargo from locations in the United Kingdom and in the USA into the affected areas. Results for Project Bohol

• 507 volunteers donated 8,887 days of labor, deconstructing 392 homes and 10 schools and helped salvage reusable materials for the homeowners in the area to utilize, saving them additional costs.
• 675 work orders completed.

• 2,998 families helped in the recovery process
• 22,571 people received aid supplies
• 15,887 days of donated labor
• 807 volunteers from 32 countries
